NATALIE BALEY Counsellor, Psychotherapist, & Registered Member of BACP
'Talking Therapies' are used to address depression, anxiety, trauma, addictions, and bereavement, to name only a few situations you might be faced
with when looking for a Counsellor/Psychotherapist.
Engaging in Counselling/Psychotherapy will allow you to express your emotions about things that concern you to a trained professional at perhaps a deeper level than you would normally to a friend or family member, knowing that what you say is kept confidential, and that you are not being judged.
Counselling/Psychotherapy is not about being told what to do, but rather to help you gain clarity, find solutions, and make decisions. The trust you develop over time with the Counsellor/Psychotherapist may help you reveal your 'authentic self' - the very substance of who you are, enabling you to bring about change in certain areas and to live the life you want.
There are many types of therapies out there, and indeed therapists to choose from, so it's important that you choose someone who you feel is right for you. Research has indicated that the
therapeutic alliance, (i.e the relationship between the therapist and the client) is the most important factor in bringing about change during therapy.
Depending on what you bring to therapy, you may experience change quite quickly. In other instances you might have to allow the therapeutic alliance to develop over time before you experience a shift. This may cause some frustration if you are expecting rapid results, and at times therapy can be described as a painful process. My role is to support you through this, and manage your expectations through open dialogue and collaboration.
